- Pernicious Anemia
- SYMPTOMS. With pernicious anemia you may experience a red, sore tongue,
- weight loss, irritability, difficulty in swallowing, abdominal pain that is
- ill-defined, intermittent diarrhea and constipation, numbness of the fingers
- and legs and mild depression as well as any of the symptoms for Iron
- Deficiency Anemia.
- CAUSES. Caused by a failure of the stomach to produce an adequate amount of
- the substance that is needed for absorption of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is
- required for the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow.
- TREATMENT. An injection of vitamin B12 may bring dramatic improvement.
